What have they done to Lydia?!

Had a little play yesterday, won't spoil but I was at North Watch trying to peacefully negotiate with the Thalmor. When the guard laughed at me I went a little "Kill Bill" the theme from Ironside ringing in my head, the lot.

Anyway when I'd calmed and was wading through Altmer corpses appreciating the light weight and value of their glass and elven armour I noticed I was close to encumberment.

I call Lydia, "I'm sworn to carry your burdens" she droned with the tone that implies a roll of the eyes "you sure are Lydia, you sure are" I think to myself smugly as I prepare to drop the usual megaton of loot on her rueful shoulders.

So I hand over an elven armour, think "what the heck, have all 5" but after I give her one (no pun intended...OK little bit of a pun) she won't take any more, the UI is greyed out.

I'm thinking I must have forgotten to "unburden" her after our last dungeon crawl so I have a look to see if there's any low value stuff she can drop. Nothing.

All she's "carrying" is equipped, full heavy dragon armour, ebony sword, his & hers bows and this one single elven armour at the weight of 4lbs.

Now I've had Lydia following me for about 14 levels and she's always roughly carried a similar weight to me. What gives?

She was sworn to carry my burdens now she can barely carry a child's lunchbox.

Bethesda have you broken Lydia's arms or spine with the latest PS3 update? Am I alone with this?

I've done some research and OMG this is a game ruiner for me.

Turns out everytime you "part ways" and reunite with your follower the additional weight of a generated untradeable bow is generated so basically if you continually leave your follower and ask then to follow you again there will a point where they will have 0 carry limit.

Lydia can literally no longer carry my burdens.

You can do console shenanigans to sort it out on the PC, I'm guessing on the PS3 I'm screwed.
