1.5 beta patch issues

Post  Lotrlore on Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:03 pm

Is anyone else experiencing issues with the Beta patch? I was able to play fine with no CtD before, but with the patch installed i get numerous crashes now. I've uninstalled the patch and no issues anymore. Anyone else experiencing this, and if so do you have any solutions as to how to fix it?

I can report a very specific crash to desktop when leaving Dragonreach. It happens when I go out the front door, so I continually have to quicksave, and then go out the door again after I restart the game. It's happened at least six times since I upgraded.

I also came upon a very odd glitch last night that I hadn't encountered before, although I don't know whether this has to do with the beta. I was running down the road in the north somewhere when I came upon a scene where Alduin was resurrecting the dragon Viinturuth. After Alduin flew off, Viinturuth attacked me, and after some minutes I killed him, absorbed the soul, and looted the skeleton. At this point I was overencumbered, so I walked a little distance away, dropped the bones, and then fast-traveled to my Dovahkiin Hideout.

After dropping some other loot to make room for the dragon bones, I fast traveled back to the area, intending to run over and pick the bones up. But for some reason I was suddenly attacked by Ice Breath, even though there was no dragon present. Then I heard a dragon roar right next to me, but there was no "fight music". I wondered what the hell was going on, and power-attacked thin air on a whim, and lo and behold, I heard my sword make contact, and "Viinturuth" showed up on my HUD again!

So I'm fighting this invisible dragon for a few seconds, and manage to kill it (the health bar dropped to zero), but there was no soul absorbed. As I walked around in circles for a few seconds the cursor blinked "Search Viinturuth", so I pressed E, and suddenly I was looting an invisible dragon corpse, fully loaded again with bones and gold.

What the hell?

Update: I've narrowed it down to one Workshop mod, Detailed Cities. Unsubscribing from that fixed my Whiterun crashing issues.

After I downloaded 1.5, I realized I wasn't running on max settings, so I cranked those up. I got my first ever Skyrim CtD just about every other time i entered one of my homes. I rolled those settings back a little and I haven't had any CtDs since. My guess was that it was just my computer not quite up to max settings.

I thought that was the case with mine too, but I don't run it at ultra High, just High with no Hi Rez/HD texture packs installed, as they crash my game as well. I might try uninstalling all my mods to see if it is any of them causing an issue with the patch. Thanks for the replies guys!

I don't know anything about the invisible dragons, as I've never heard of that. But I had the same issue with walking outside Breezehome crashing my game. It was right after I installed the Hi-Rez Texture pack. I uninstalled it and the game runs fine. Stupid thing is my graphics card should be able to handle it. Oh well.

As for your invisible dragon, I would love to see Screenshots, especially if the dragon was invisible, but the flame from it's mouth was not.

I wish I had the presence of mind to get a screenshot, but I was caught off guard -- I'm walking down the road and suddenly, ice breath in my face.

Edit: As it turns out, this is a known glitch.
